Youth for Change: A Better World Tomorrow Contributor Post by Mark Anthony L. Alegre

As a young person, I've come to the part where I asked myself, "What can I do to change the world?" Young people like me want to change the world, they are usually aware of relevant issues that affect them and the world. However, they wonder how to go about solving them.

I believe that young people are fearless, brave, brilliant, and confident. Young people have the ideas, creativity, and energy to shape a better world. Youth, in essence, are full of hope. Through innovation and imagination, they came to be problem solvers and have the potential to generate a positive impact in the world.

Young people are in a continuous search for the transcendence that leads to the desire of helping the environment, countries, communities, and families. Through globalization and technology the world has even become smaller, with unlimited possibilities of connection there is a unique chance for young people to unite in solidarity and empathize with real friendship.

According to the World Youth Alliance, in 1985, the United Nations declared the first "International Year of Youth". The same year, young people from around the world united in Rome. During that gathering, convened by Pope John Paul II, the institution of the World Youth Day was announced as a week-long international event, every two-three years. Since then, some of the countries where the World Youth Day has been held include Italy, Canada, Germany, Australia, and Spain. In the Philippines, most of the regions were also celebrating the World Youth Day to give importance to young people who contributed positive impact into changing the world.
