Happiness is Simply Another Word for Gratitude by Kaker Alegre

Real happiness, to me, is knowing oneself by loving who you are and being content with whatever life has given you. I think happiness is contagious, and therefore, I believe in  spreading happiness all around so that others can absorb it from you.

Last June 4, 2022, I attended a zoom meeting which was facilitated by Raketeer and the topic was all about “Happiness”. Presented by Father Chris Salongga, he discussed happiness in a spiritual context. For those in attendance, it can be considered total enlightenment especially for some people who are feeling sorrowful and perhaps too discouraged to enjoy life. I understood that happiness is a blessing, and when you’re happy, God blesses you abundantly.

There are three valuable things I’ve learned from Father Chris’s presentation regarding happiness:

“Learn to be humble and compassionate as you choose to be happy.”

This quote from Father Chris's presentation has helped me understand that this is extremely important for a happy person. When you are humble and compassionate, you attract success by working smart in silence and you don’t crave to be praised by others because you know the important compliment is what comes from the Lord who blesses you.

“Give help and support to someone in need. Help and support will return to you with lightning speed.”

As Father Chris said during his presentation, helping someone in need is a form of Godly happiness and I agree with him. When you help someone in need, it’s a reflection of who you are and it’s true God will reward you 10 times more for the good deeds you did for the less fortunate ones.

I can relate to this statement of Father Chris since Raketeer gave me an opportunity to better myself and get out of my comfort zone. They helped me become confident and nurtured me to be brave to believe in myself. I’m beyond grateful that I became part of this wonderful organization that missioned to better the lives of out-of-school youth like me.

“Love as the most powerful energy that can transform you into the happiest person ever.”

Love plays an important role in becoming a happy person. Father Chris said, there are four kinds of love in this world, the first one is “self-love” which means loving yourself will help you become content with the life you have, and you feel thankful for being you.

The second one is the love you have for your family. Our family especially our parents are the ones who continuously remind us of how great we are and that they are blessed for having us in their lives. Treasure your family as they are the reason why you live your purpose. The third one is loving someone as your better half, when you love someone everything in this world could mean so much to you, and you feel glad being in love.

The last but extremely important kind of love is the love you have for the Lord. In so many aspects of life, God showed us, immeasurable love, as he sacrificed himself on the cross in order to save us from our sins. We can’t deny that the love of God for us is quite amazing as he created the world for us to live. That’s why we should be faithful to him and consistently pray for a good provision as Jesus never forgets his promise. His love is a holy one. Otherwise, a loving person always has the reasons to be happy.

After watching the presentation of Father Chris with regards to happiness, I realized even if you are the saddest person in the world, you can always find reasons to be happy. Happiness is everywhere. All you have to do is to open your heart to the bright things that surround you and be thankful for the blessing of living your life every day. After all, happiness may just be another word for gratitude.
